A Quick Head Update
For those of you following my quirky little medical condition they call Chiari I malformation, here’s an update for ya.
The Neurosurgeon decided on surgery. This is not exactly GOOD news for me, but I have to keep telling myself that getting it fixed will up my quality of life by taking away the headaches, all while giving me as much ice cream as I can eat in my 3-5 days in the hospital afterward! ;)

So this is what we’re looking at here. See that tonsil? It’s not supposed to be hanging as low as it is. But since it is, it’s applying pressure to my spinal cord and brain stem, which is causing the headaches I get. So how is it going to be fixed? By removing some bone from my skull to make more room for that pesky tonsil and thus making me feel better. The neurosurgeon tells me it’s an ‘easy surgery’, but I get the feeling it’s going to be rough. The bonus is, is that it’s not a surgery on my actual brain, and he assures me that I will be up and running at full capacity in a week or two.
What happens if I decide NOT to get the surgery? Maybe nothing. OR maybe I’ll start to lose functionality and feeling in my arms and legs eventually resulting in loss of fine motor skills and my hands going into a little claw like thing. (no thanks.) Which means….? Exactly… no more gaming. Eeeep.
This surgery won’t be happening for a while, (you can thank Canadian health care for that) because I have to go through some tests first to be sure that I haven’t sustained any nerve damage so far. I’m willing to bet I haven’t because after all I AM a gamer and I haven’t noticed any problems while I play. But it’s ok that it’s not happening for a while because that tells me that its not life threatening (and its not.. I asked ;) ) but also because I’m finally in my last semester of school and I’d reeeeaaaaallllly like to finish that. But after that’s done, I guess it’s time to get my head shaved and cut into.
Good god, I’m terrified. heh…
